Abstract: The PJM Interconnection LLC has the longest history of enabling demand response (DR) resources to actively participate in the energy and ancillary services markets. Over the last few years rule changes, compensation and energy price fluctuations have made a dramatic impact on DR participation. As the largest curtailment service provider of energy load response programs in PJM, EnergyConnect will put these experiences into perspective and discuss required elements for realizing the true potential for price responsive load management. The need for programs to “inform and motivate” versus “command and control” will also be discussed.
